So, when Diamond and I were at the vet waiting for the blood work to be processed, she was lying there, head down, playing the part of a truely sick doggie when another dog starts howling like it is some serious pain. She lifted her head up in like .2 seconds, ears raised, and looks at me like, "What the hell are they doing to that dog? You better not let them do that to me." I had to laugh. It was so funny.
]]>My puppy, Diamond, recently got really sick. She hadn't shown any signs of illness and then within a week, she lost lots of weight. I first noticed she wasn't eating last week but KC said I was overfeeding her and that because of the rain, she wasn't eating mushy/ wet food. But, I kept dumping out the mushy rained on food and putting in new, finally after a couple of days of no rain, I realized she really was not eating. I got her canned food and she ate it but still got sicker. My dad kept telling me that I shouldn't spend money on the vet because they would overcharge me and she probably wasn't as sick as I thought. Well, I felt like she was dying. She looked awful. She was lethargic and not herself. My husband had me convinced that some skin tags she had must be cancerous and yesterday I spent most of the day crying. I never, ever thought I would be so upset about an animal. I had pets growing up and I cared about them. I cried over a few, but I've never been overly attached. I by no means spoil Diamond. She has taken a back burner to my boys. But, seeing her this way broke my heart and I suddenly realized that she's such an important part of this family that I cannot imagine life without her in it. Last night, Clayton goes, "Mommy, if Diamond is sick, then who will keep the coyottes out of our yard? I'll be scared." She's our guardian. We all feel safer with her and even now, knowing that makes me tear up. I understand why people cry over pets now, because very rarely in life can you find a human to be so devoted and loyal, to love you conditionally, and be willing to die for you.
O.k. and before everyone panics thinking my loyal guardian is deathly ill. I took her to the vet early this morning. Her white blood cells were high but she has whipworms and heart worms. The heart worms cannot be treated until the whipworms are gone which will be in three weeks. She was dehydrated and so they put an iv in her leg and sent me home with a bag of fluids. I have to sit with her for an hour twice a day for the next few days giving her fluids. I flush the line and put the needle into the iv myself. If you knew how much I hate needles, you would know this is a big deal for me. I keep telling myself the dirty work (putting iv in) is done and its not a big deal because I am helping her, not hurting her. If she does not get better after treating these two things then we have to run more tests and take exrays. I am hoping this is it.
I know heart worms can be prevented. She has been on the medicine in the past, but since we live in a rural area and Diamond is never out of her fenced in yard, our house, or presence, the likelihood of her getting these things seemed small. Also, whipworms can be prevented, but something important to know is that not all heart worm medicine contains the medicine for whipworms, so if you have a doggie you might want to check that out. So, the vet thinks a stray wandering through probably is the cause of all of these issues. And recently someone did dump a stray on our road. In fact in August and September lots of animals kept showing up out here. Well, the vet thinks that most likely a stray stopped and, you know, doodied in my yard and left these nasty parasites.
Yuck!
No more excavating in the backyard boys. (the boys like to get their toys and dig in the yard).

Diamond was given to me by my husband right before he purposed to me. The full surprise ended up being ruined by the guy who was selling her calling KC while I was with him. But, the original plan was for little black and tan Diamond to deliver me a ring tied around her neck with a big red bow. Well, because the man called and ruined the surprise, Diamond never made that debut, but I did get to go pick her out (and later, I got to pick out a ring as well). She was the happy, clumsy one who bounded for me first so I took her and we've never looked back. I have a picture of her with me on my wedding, I brought two baby boys home to meet her, and she's loved each of them just as she loves me because they are mine and I am hers. She turned seven on October 17th (just this past Saturday). She's our loyal guardian. She's my Diamond, because "diamonds are a girl's best friend."

Wow! I have so many. When I was younger and lived in Nebraska. I loved our sleepovers. The four amigos (me, Mari, Julie, and Lindsey). We took turns having slumber parties at each other's houses. It was always a good time. In high school, Julie, Jodi, Lindsey, Wendy and I always had fun on our bus rides to games. Everyone spent those long rides singing and telling their deepest, darkest secrets. lol. Julie and I used to go lay out at the lake as soon as we got our driver's licenses. When I moved back to Illinois, I spent a lot of time hanging out with Sumer, Sacha, Dasha, Suzanne, and Elisha. ..going to fairs, movies, and the mall. Both while in Nebraska and in Illinois, I took my Saturn on quite a few cruises and crazy joy rides around towns and through the country. Loud music, carelessness, and laughter filled up a huge majority of my school days and nights.

]]>It is that time. All the ladies know what I am talking about and OMG! I am being so damn mean. Mostly in my head. I haven't cussed out anyone, just thought about it. I have been so irritated and annoyed with so many people this week that it isn't even funny. Every little thing either hurts my feelings or irritates me...sometimes both.
My husband is coming home after being gone for two weeks and tomorrow we are driving to St. Louis and seeing Nickelback live in concert. I should be excited and happy, but I am just such a bitch. I am glad I have learned to keep my mouth shut; otherwise, a lot of people would be really pissed at me right now.
