QotD: High School Romance
What was the best date you went on in high school?
All of my high school dates were pretty lame because I had a tendency to date losers. But, the most memorable date that I can recall was a blind date that my sister set me up with when I was sixteen. It was with this guy that I walked down the aisle with when I was two years old in her wedding. Yeah, my sis is eighteen years older than me. I had a crush on this boy as a little girl and my sister saw him out when he was older and realized he was still cute, showed him my picture, and set us up. So, he here comes in his Thunderbird and picks me up at my sister's house the summer I moved back to wonderful Illinois. All he had told me was to pack my swimsuit. I'm not even sure if I brought a towel because I didn't think he would seriously take me swimming on our first date. We drive out to a smalltown called Marble Hill, MO where apparently there is a lake called Whippoorwill Lake. He shouldn't have said pack a swimsuit, he should have said, "wear it, because I am taking you for a swim!". So, we get out to this lake in the middle of nowhere, I have to go change and we swim the entire day. Looking back, it was pretty clever on his part. I mean here we are on our first date and he has me in a bikini and wet with an excuse to swim close and have contact. Very smart young man! Well, to top of his great idea, I am accident prone, so about halfway through our date my top comes untied and I grab it and try not to drown while I paddle back to where I can touch and tie my top back on without revealing myself to my newly met friend. Well, he finally sees me struggling and offers to help me out with my top. It was a little embarassing for someone that was as reserved as me. We went on a couple of other dates after that because he was very cute, but it turned out that when my sister was "setting us up", he neglected to tell her the part about him having a serious girlfriend, so when he headed to college and I headed back to high school, we parted ways and have never spoken since.
